Slow charging speed and short range are always the main factors which restrict the development of electric vehicles. Black phosphorus is an isotope of white phosphorus, the special layer structure gives it a strong ion conduction capacity and theoretically high charge capacity, it is a very promising "fast charging" electrode material. Recently Chinese and USA research team have made a new type of black phosphorus composite material by making black phosphorus composites into electrode sheets and using thin polymer gels to make dust-proof coats. Laboratory testing result shows that the electrode can restore about 80% of the charge after 9 minutes of charging, and can still maintain 90% of the charge capacity after 2000 cycles. The lithium-ion battery designed may combine the advantages of fast charging, high charge capacity and long life. The study has been published in 《Science》.
